Our Strategic Focus and Approach

We believe that sustainability requires domestic funding, shared leadership, meaningful community and youth involvement, integrated health care, and regional innovation to reduce reliance on external aid. National and regional innovations are essential for developing infrastructure, capacity for data, laboratory, and supply chain systems, as well as supporting manufacturing, commodities, and research and development.  To advance this, we strategically focus on:

Our approach to achieving this is to:

  • Facilitate country and regional dialogue to strengthen domestic financing, country ownership, accountability, and sustainability of HIV and broader health systems.
  • Generate a shared understanding, from an African perspective, of what it means to sustain an HIV response for over 25 million Africans, recognising the disproportionate burden of HIV in particular sub-populations and geographic areas.
  • Work with governments and stakeholders to outline a roadmap of partnership and investment to finance their HIV and broader health systems sustainably.
  • Underscore the centrality of HIV prevention and support the reprioritisation of prevention investments based on context, subpopulation needs, and patient outcomes rather than coverage alone.
  • Advocate for accelerated progress towards UHC and for clear, country-owned pathways to integrate HIV and other health services while maintaining and improving access to quality HIV care, especially for key and priority populations.
