HCWG

Working through the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ), the HCWG last week supported a workshop to develop the Health Financing Strategy 2027–2031 Roadmap. The workshop was held to synthesise findings from the Health Financing Situation Analysis and the Key Informant Interviews reports.

This support forms part of the HCWG’s continued push to advance sustainable domestic health financing and strengthen Zambia’s health sovereignty.

Building the roadmap

The five-day workshop brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Finance, the National Health Insurance Management Authority, the University of Zambia and the Financing Alliance for Health. Participants reviewed evidence on Zambia’s current health financing environment, identified emerging priorities and challenges, and shaped a roadmap to guide the country’s health financing agenda from 2027 to 2031.

The findings from the Situation Analysis and Key Informant Interviews will form a vital evidence base for the National Health Financing Strategy. They capture perspectives from across the health financing landscape and point to opportunities to strengthen financing mechanisms.

An investment in sustainability

For the HCWG, supporting this process reflects a commitment to developing a strategic and sustainable health financing architecture that can underpin resilient health systems.

Looking ahead

Zambia’s 2027–2031 Health Financing Strategy represents a significant opportunity to turn evidence, stakeholder perspectives and national priorities into a practical roadmap for a stronger, more self-reliant health financing system.
