Dr. Nyaradzo Mavis Mgodi

Dr. Nyaradzo Mavis Mgodi is a visionary physician-scientist whose dedication to HIV prevention research has yielded groundbreaking progress in biomedical interventions—especially for African women. Through her leadership in clinical trials, editorial contributions, and advocacy, she has made a profound impact on both global science and local health outcomes. After working nearly 12 years in Zimbabwe’s public health sector, Dr. Mgodi transitioned from pathology to HIV prevention research in 2007, joining the UZ UCSF Clinical Trials Unit. Dr. Mgodi is: 

• A member of the HPTN Executive Committee
• A scientific reviewer for the Medical Research Council of Zimbabwe
• A technical advisor for the Zimbabwe Population-Based HIV Impact Assessment (ZIMPHIA) survey
• A member of the Policy and Implementation Steering Committee for the GEMS project
• A past member of organizing and advisory committees for IAS conferences, including HIVR4P and IAS 2017
She has served as Deputy Editor for the Journal of the International AIDS Society and Associate Editor for Frontiers in Global Reproductive Health – HIV and STIs. Her scholarly contributions include several peer-reviewed publications. She also chairs Trial Steering Committees and Data & Safety Monitoring Boards.
