Dr Peter Baron
He is an independent public health consultant with extensive experience of health systems research, monitoring and evaluation, health sector management and delivery of primary health care and health systems strengthening especially in sub-Saharan Africa (including in-depth expertise in the management of HIV, TB and MCH programmes). He has a keen understanding of The Global Fund and how it works at global and country levels. He has excellent writing skills for reports and policy briefs. He has a background in accounting and understand from a developing country, sub-Saharan African perspective the issues of health financing and sustainability
He was a member of the TERG of The Global Fund (2018 to 2022) and is an honorary Associate Professor at the School of Public Health, University of the Witwatersrand (since 2017).
Between 2009 and 2019, he was a long-term, ‘embedded’ technical support consultant to the National Department of Health in South Africa, seconded to the NDOH via funding from CHAI and PEPFAR.
