Ruth Akulu

Ruth Akulu is a passionate young woman who is self-driven to create a difference in her community in HIV/SRH response. She’s an Economist by profession and worked as a community monitor under the Community led monitoring project, Advocacy officer at, and was an AVAC Fellow 2022/23 hosted by International Community of Women Living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA). She was Miss Y+ Second runners up 2019/20 to address HIV stigma and discrimination. She’s been awarded Media Advocated award 2020 by the Uganda Network of Young People Living with HIV (UNYPA), F.I.E.R.C.E award by ICWEA and the Above and Beyond AVAC Fellows award 2022/23 by AVAC.

She represents young women on different technical working groups such as the Young Women’s HIV prevention council, the African HIV Control Working group under the HIV Sustainability, Leadership and Governance Thematic Group, the National HIV Prevention Committee, and the Uganda Country Coordination mechanism board for Global Fund. She’s also a member of the Young Women’s HIV Prevention Council, the Dual Prevention Pill Civil Society Advisory Group and the Multipurpose Prevention Technologies (MPTs) Regulatory Working Group.

Ruth currently part times as the Pediatrics and Adolescent Associate at the Ministry of Health under the National Young People and Adolescent Peer Supporters (YAPS) program.
