How We Work
The African HCWG Theory of Change
Focus areas
1. Research
Conducting qualitative research with key experts, policy makers and youths across Africa to get a common understanding of what HIV control means from an African perspective and what will be needed to sustain the HIV response.
2. Thematic Groups
Comprised of experts and experienced technocrats from academia, community advocacy, HIV implementation, and policy experts, the thematic groups are providing thought leadership on HIV control in Africa and how to sustain it. The thematic groups focus on four key areas namely, HIV Control, HIV Prevention, Health and Community System Strengthening; and Sustainability, Governance and Leadership.
3. Advocacy
The HCWG is working with different stakeholders within, and outside Africa including funders such as PEPFAR, USAID, Global Fund, and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, African organizations such as Africa CDC, the African Union, The HIV Leadership Forum (a community of practice of Director Generals of AIDS Coordinating Authorities), Africa REACH, as well as African Governments through their Ministers of Health, to advocate for an African-led HIV response that secures the health of millions of people living with HIV and also ensures that subsequent generations do not ensure the devastating effects of HIV.
