Prof Awa Marie Coll-Seck

She is President of the Galien Africa Association, which organises the annual Galien Africa Forum and Prix Galien. Pr Coll Seck has twice been Senegal’s Minister of Health (2001-2003 and 2012-2017). She was named ‘World’s Best Minister’ in Dubai in February 2017 at the World Government Summit.

She headed the Department of Infectious Diseases at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal. Internationally, Professor Awa Marie Coll Seck was Executive Director of the Roll Back Malaria (RBM) Partnership from 2004 to 2012 and Director of the Policy, Strategy and Research Department of UNAIDS from 1996 to 2001.

She sits on the Board of Directors of: Resolve to Save Lives, AFRIVAC, the GAVI Alliance, Grand Challenges Canada, Exemplars in Global Health, etc.

Professor Awa Marie Coll Seck is a member of the Jury of the Noguchi Africa Prize (Japan), the Virchow Prize (Germany) and the Young African Innovators for Health Prize. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of the Harvard Ministerial Leadership Programme (USA) and the Steering Committee of ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases (France).

She has received numerous honours, including Chevalier of the Order of Merit of Senegal, Burkina Faso and Gambia, as well as the Order of Merit, the Palmes académiques, the Légion d’Honneur de France and the decoration of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star of Japan. She is the author of over 150 scientific publications.
